Statement by President John Hennessy Following is a statement by President John Hennessy in response to the tragic events of Tuesday, September 11, 2001 Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the families and friends of victims of today's tragic events. Like all American citizens and concerned people throughout the world, I am filled with grief and horror over these brutal attacks. I also want to reassure members of the campus community that the university's senior leadership has been considering the best ways to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty and staff in the wake of these events. Although we do not believe there is any immediate risk, I met with members of my senior staff this morning and we will continue to meet on a regular basis in the coming days to assess the situation and develop appropriate responses as necessary. We are also
sadly aware that this tragedy will touch some in our community in a more
personal way through the loss of family or friends; others no doubt will
suffer emotionally from the shock of these horrendous events. Our colleagues
in counseling services and the Office of Religious Life will be available
to provide support and comfort in these trying times. I am confident that
all members of our community will exhibit support and sensitivity to those
in need in the aftermath of this tragedy. |
