Act II: Beatriz Stix-Brunell, ’25, on leaps of faith and life beyond the stage
After 11 years with the Royal Ballet, first soloist Beatriz Stix-Brunell retired from dancing and enrolled at Stanford – the oldest member of her freshman class. “I wanted to see who else I was.”
As a young adult, Ayla Pamukçu found herself at a crossroads between college and culinary school. Thanks in part to an influential box of rocks, she chose a research path that eventually led to a career studying the inner workings of the Earth.
After taking the undergraduate class, Why College, Daniel Gaughran took a leave of absence from Stanford to extend the course’s goals of contemplation and self-discovery. He is now back at Stanford, energized and ready for whatever is next.
