Conference to address needs of research administration staff

BY BARBARA PALMER

The Office of Research Administration will present "Building Community," a one-day conference July 20 designed to address the needs of research administration staff at Stanford.

Conference keynote speaker will be Dr. Richard M. Myers, professor and chair of the Department of Genetics in the School of Medicine and director of the Stanford Human Genome Center. Arthur Bienenstock, vice provost and dean of research and graduate policy, also will speak.

Workshops to be offered include "Show Me the Money: Building Relationships with Industry," "Seven Highly Effective Habits of Recording and Reporting Cost Sharing and Effort" and "Research Administration as a Career." The conference also will include a humorous presentation with a serious message, "The Wizard of Oz Does Compliance!" organizers said.

Research administrators, department administrators or anyone who wants to learn more about the administration of sponsored projects should attend, said Patti McCabe, director of training and development for the Office of Research Administration. "This conference will provide an opportunity for staff members to develop skills, share knowledge and have some fun," she said.

The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., followed by a reception. Lunch is included in the $100 registration fee (STAP funds can be used).

Space for the conference is limited. Staff can register online at www.stanford.edu/dept/ORA/training/resconf04/index.html.
