Honors and Awards INGRAM OLKIN, professor of statistics and of education, has received a 2003 Townsend Harris Medal for outstanding postgraduate achievements from the City College of New York, where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1947. Olkin is an expert in multivariate statistical analysis and meta-analysis. His ideas have been applied in education, medicine, science, engineering, psychology, sociology, political science, market research, business and finance. At Stanford, he has chaired the Statistics Department and is a fellow of the Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research. His honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, Lifetime Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association, two of the highest awards of the American Statistical Association and the Elizabeth L. Scott Award for commitment to career advancement of women and minorities. A past president of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, Olkin served on the National Research Council panel that evaluated the 2000 Census. Prior Harris medalists include Ira Gershwin, Colin Powell, Jonas Salk, Andrew Grove and Stanley Kaplan. |
