Sandra J. Horning, MD, professor of medicine (oncology and bone marrow transplantation), was named president-elect of the 20,000-member American Society of Clinical Oncology, or ASCO, the world’s leading society of multidisciplinary medical professionals focusing on cancer. Her term begins in June at the 40th annual ASCO meeting in New Orleans.

An ASCO member since 1983, Horning served on the organization’s board of directors and the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. She chaired the cancer education committee and has led many educational and scientific sessions at annual meetings of ASCO.

Horning, whose research focuses on the biology and management of lymphoproliferative disorders, is chair of the lymphoma committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and project leader for National Cancer Institute-sponsored research in Hodgkin’s disease and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
