Haas Center seeks nominations for new volunteer award The Miriam Aaron Roland Volunteer Service Prize, a new endowed annual prize for faculty who integrate scholarship and public service, will be awarded for the first time in conjunction with Community Day on April 4. The $5,000 prize, established at the Haas Center for Public Service by alumna Miriam Roland, will recognize a faculty member who engages students in integrating academic scholarship with significant volunteer service for nonprofits, nongovernmental organizations or government service in the United States or internationally. To be eligible for the prize, faculty must have a personal commitment to service and a demonstrated record of involving students in service. The prize selection committee also will consider the extent to which nominees have developed innovative approaches to integrating academic scholarship and volunteer service; the nominees' records of personal public service; records of research and teaching involving students in service; and the significance of the nominees' contributions. Eligible faculty include full-time Academic Council members, senior lecturers, Medical Center line faculty members and clinician educators. Candidates may be nominated by colleagues or students, or can nominate themselves. Nominations should include three letters from students, faculty, deans and/or community partners and should be sent to: Roland Prize Selection Committee, Haas Center, 562 Salvatierra Walk, Stanford CA 94305-8620 by 5 p.m. Feb. 13. Letters should indicate the relationship between the writer and the nominee. Nominations can be submitted by e-mail to Jackie Schmidt-Posner at jsp@stanford.edu and followed by signed originals. Information about the prize can be found online at http://haas.stanford.edu.
