Bomb threat closes medical buildings

A bomb threat Thursday led to a two-hour evacuation of campus medical buildings in Welch Plaza, at the corner of Welch Road and Pasteur Drive.

The incident began when a Stanford Hospital employee received a call on her mobile phone about 1:15 p.m. The male caller told the employee that a bomb had been planted in her car, according to Agent Tami Gage of the Palo Alto Police Department. The employee said she did not recognize the caller's voice, Gage added.

Police declined to identify the employee's car, which was unoccupied at the time. It was in a parking lot near a cluster of one-story buildings that house Stanford medical clinics. One of those buildings, Building B, was evacuated; another, Building C, was partially evacuated.

A bomb technician with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office found no evidence of explosives in the car, and clinic employees were allowed back into the buildings about 3:30 p.m.
