Research funding available through Media X Program Funding for research about interactive technologies used in social interaction and collaboration in productivity contexts is now available through the Media X Program. Relevant technologies include synchronous and asynchronous uses of text, graphics, voice and video. Examples of this include web and video conferencing, whiteboarding, application sharing, e-mail, instant messaging, video on demand, and speech recognition and synthesis. Individual and organizational outcomes include productivity, efficiency, quality, adaptiveness, comprehension, personalization, engagement, liking, demand creation, learning, credibility, trust and information integrity. Example scenarios of technology use include distance learning, multiplayer games used in training, knowledge worker collaboration, virtual facilitation, local versus distributed participation in meetings, indexing of expertise and information in a networked environment. Proposals are eligible for as much as $50,000 in funding for one year. Multiyear projects will be considered, but funding will be allocated only one year at a time. Media X also announces the establishment of Kozmetsky Research Assistantships to support the projects proposed above. Graduate students named to these one-year assistantships will become part of a community of students supported by other Kozmetsky gifts to Stanford, and organized through the Kozmetsky Global Collaboratory on campus. For more information about the collaboratory, contact Syed Shariq at sshariq@stanford.edu. Proposals should be submitted electronically in PDF format by noon March 6 to Keith Devlin at devlin@csli.stanford.edu. Please note that in order to process applications on time, only proposals that accord to the guidelines described at http://mediax.stanford.edu/globals/faculty/guidelines.html will be eligible for consideration. Awards will be announced by March 11, and funding will be available shortly afterward. For information about Media X, visit the web at http://mediax.stanford.edu. Address inquiries about budget arrangements to Christina Doering at cdoering@csli.stanford.edu. Address all other inquiries to Keith Devlin at devlin@csli.stanford.edu. |
