Thomas M. Krummel, MD, the Emile Holman Professor in Surgery and department chair, was elected to the James IV Association of Surgeons. Krummel was chosen for his contributions to ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), cellular and biochemical mechanisms of fetal tissue repair, and the application of information technology to surgical practice and education. Robert A. Chase, MD, professor emeritus, is the only other Stanford faculty member to be elected to the international surgical association.
