Markus HAZEL MARKUS, the Davis-Brack Professor in the Behavioral Sciences, has been elected a 2004 fellow of the American Psychological Association. Markus, co-director of the Research Institute of the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, was selected for her achievements in the field of psychology, which have focused on the role of the self in regulating behavior. Her most recent work, in the area of cultural psychology, explores the interdependence between psychological structures and processes and sociocultural environments. JAMES SHEEHAN, the Dickason Professor in the Humanities, last
month was elected head of the American Historical Association
(AHA). As president-elect, Sheehan is responsible for chairing the
AHA committee on committees. In January 2005, when Sheehan becomes
president, he will preside over the association's annual meeting
and, in his last official act, give a presidential address that is
published in the American Historical Review. In January 2006,
Sheehan will become immediate past president.
