Kristy Freeman Woods, MD, director of the Maya
Angelou Research Center of Minority Health in Winston-Salem, N.C.,
will present a lecture tomorrow titled “Understanding Racial
and Ethnic Health Disparities.”

Her research areas include sickle cell anemia and chronic disease
management for low-income African American patients.
Each quarter, the medical school invites prominent minority faculty
and scholars from around the country to present on topics related
to minority health.
The series hopes to draw attention to health-care needs of minority
groups throughout the United States.
The series is sponsored by the Student National Medical
Association, the Center of Excellence and the Gustavus and Louise
Pfeiffer Research Foundation.
A reception will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Clark Center
auditorium, followed by Woods’ talk at noon.
The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information,
