Farmer to speak during 'Haiti Week'

Health and social issues in Haiti are taking center stage this week throughout campus.

The division of general surgery with the Department of Comparative Literature and the Institute for International Studies will present wide-ranging talks and presentations during "Haiti Week."

Among the featured speakers is Paul Farmer, MD, PhD, of Harvard medical school.

A medical anthropologist and leading infectious disease researcher, Farmer is internationally known for his work in human rights and in delivering health care to some of the world’s most impoverished people, particularly in Haiti.

Farmer will present several talks, including "Global Health Equity and the Future of Public Health" on Friday at 4 p.m. in Fairchild Auditorium.

The events are free and open to all. E-mail Ralph Greco at grecors@stanford.edu for scheduling information.
