Annual symposium covers cancer

The 2004 Beckman Symposium will focus on cancer treatment, with distinguished speakers discussing new drug paradigms, stem cells and improving cancer survival.

Speakers include Stanton Glanz, from UCSF, who will talk about the politics of finding cancer causes rather than cancer cures. Brian Druker, from the Oregon Health and Science University, will discuss new targeted cancer therapies.

Five breakout sessions throughout the day provide a chance to talk with the researchers about their work and the prospects for cancer treatment.

The event runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Fairchild Auditorium.
