Stanford Powwow to be held May 7-9

The Stanford American Indian Organization will host the 33rd annual Stanford Powwow on Mother's Day Weekend, May 7-9, in the eucalyptus grove in the Arboretum at Galvez Street and Campus Drive. About 30,000 people are expected to attend the event, the largest student-run powwow in the United States and one of the largest powwows on the West Coast.

Dance competitions will begin Friday with a grand entry of dancers at 7 p.m. and will continue until 11 p.m. Dancing will continue from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The gathering will include approximately 100 arts and crafts, souvenir, information and food booths, which will be open throughout the three-day event. Overnight camping spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $5 per night. There is no admission to the powwow, but donations are welcome.

The Stanford Powwow is organized, coordinated and hosted by Native American undergraduate and graduate students.
