This week, a Stanford medical researcher and several students
shared their thoughts on two important issues:
USA Today. The Food and Drug Adminstration
recently issued a public health advisory stating that patients
taking antidepressants can become suicidal in the first weeks of
therapy. Regina Casper, MD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral
sciences, weighed in on the issue in an opinion piece in the paper.
Casper previously has commented in the New York Times,
San Francisco Chronicle and several other smaller
newspapers.

Palo Alto Weekly. Medical student Nick Rubashkin
co-edited "What I Learned in Medical School," a book that includes
stories from young doctors on their experiences getting into
medical school. Many of the contributors expressed concerns over
the medical school process, and the three co-editors included a
blueprint for improving medical education. This article on the book
also discussed Stanford's curriculum, which was recently changed to
reflect the new needs of medicine.
