Inauguration of President Marc Tessier-Lavigne will be Oct. 21
Stanford will celebrate the investiture of its new president, Marc Tessier-Lavigne, on Friday, Oct. 21, at 9:30 a.m., in Frost Amphitheater. A reception in the Main Quad will follow the ceremony.
The inauguration of Marc Tessier-Lavigne as Stanford’s 11th president will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, at 9:30 a.m. in Frost Amphitheatre. Those unable to attend the ceremony are encouraged to watch it via a live webcast.

Tickets are required. Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Faculty members recently received an invitation from Provost John Etchemendy to participate in the processional, along with special instructions for responding and ordering academic regalia. Ticket information for students and staff will be announced later this month. Alumni will receive separate notification regarding attendance in upcoming communications from the Stanford Alumni Association.
After the ceremony, a reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Main Quad for Tessier-Lavigne and his wife, Mary Hynes. The reception will feature live stage performances by a variety of Stanford student groups reflecting the diversity of the campus. Light box lunches and beverages will be available.
The inauguration coincides with the start of Reunion Homecoming Weekend, when the celebration of Stanford’s 125th Anniversary will reach its apex.
An advisory committee is planning the inauguration celebrations. The members of the committee are: Wendy Calvert, chief of staff, Office of Development; David Demarest, vice president, Office of Public Affairs; Elaine Enos, executive director, Special Events & Protocol, Office of Public Affairs; Stephanie Kalfayan, vice provost, Academic Affairs; Roberta Katz, interim chief of staff to the president; Lisa Lapin, associate vice president, University Communications; and Carolyn Manning, vice president, Alumni Relations.
